Meeting Minutes January 2, 2024

  1.  Time to pay dues

  2. Volunteer sign ups- we need snack coordinators, in person sew day coordinators, social media coordinators, retreat committee, 2 class coordinators, quilt con community quilt, BOM lead person - combine with charity group, a membership person, demos for meetings- coordinator plus people to do demos.  Clipboards were passed around during the meeting with the sign up lists.

  3. Zoom sew days will be discontinued. 

  4. Jan 20 -  sew day, 10:30 - 1:00, Capitola Library 

  5. Treasurer report - $5800 total balance in our accounts. The  preferred method of payment is checks as PayPal has fees. We keep a minimal extra cash in our account. 

  6. We had a Book share and several members shared their favorite quilting books. Heidi shared Quilting Makes the Quilt, Walk by J Ghering, Improv by Maria Shell, plus one other Improv book. Pam shared  Improv Quilting by Irene Roderick. Mickey shared Gwen Marston’s  A Common Thread, and Freddy Moran, Collaborate Again. Jean shared the first issue of Quilt Digest from 1983. Anna shared  Make Your own Medallion. Gayne shared Victoria Finley Wolfe’d - Modern Quilt Magic and Quilting Modern. Darlene shared The Patchwork Planner and Designers Guide to Color.  Judy shared  People and Portraits and Pictoral Art Quilt Guidebook by Leni Levenson Weiner. Karen shared 10 years of Quiltcon Winners. Ruth shared Cutural Fusion, by Sujata Shah, and East meets West quilts by Patricia Belyea. Sara shared   2 books by Jean Wells and Elizabeth Barton’s , Free Motion Quilting.

  7. Ruth updated the guild on current events including the PVQA -  A Modern Universe show with a Jan 8 deadline to enter, a Hawaiian quilt show at the Quilt Museum in San Jose, ending this weekend, and in March 1,2 a Desert Quilt show.

  8. Meryl Selman from PVQA is chairing the bed turning at the Pvqa show, she’s looking for modern quilts with planetary themes, when filling out the entry form write about inspiration, why the quilt was made, it’s history, etc. Use the quilt entry form to submit, or email her at merylselman@gmail.com

  9. Lori announced the Quilt 2024, Jan 10-14, online seminar with 30 plus teachers and  lectures. Lori is setting up an account so that it will be free for 1 time access or $49 for unlimited access. The guild will send out email with more information.

  10. The Fabric dying group meeting date is on hold for better weather.

  11. Sew and Tell, Shana and Mary, Darlene and Beth, Beth, Susan- can request library books, Laura, Gayne, Heidi, Sanda, Jen, Ruth, Marlene.
