Kathrin presented Quiltcon news:
The Maxwell Hanrahan Foundation awarded the MQG a grant which has enabled the MQG to offer a breakthrough award to a new modern quilter, plus they have doubled the prize money for Quiltcon.
The awards ceremony will be held and live streamed on Wednesday February 29 at 6 pm pst.
All lectures will be recorded and available on demand after the show. There will be a sensory relief room this year.
They recommend that attendees bring two pairs of shoes to the show.
Several members shared their quilts from Kathrin’s class, including Kathrin, Kathryn, Anna, Heidi, Lori, and Desiree.
PVQA is requesting volunteers for a Modern quilter trunk show on May 12. Contact Pat if you’re interested.
Pat announced the May retreat will cost $430 for a shared room and $505 for a single. The retreat is scheduled for 5/1 - 5/4.
Susan demonstrated how to make a quilt block and handed out kits.
There will be a library sew day on Saturday 2/8 from 10 - 12.
Heidi announced that she would like members to volunteer to share their quilt hanging expertise at the March meeting.
Pat announced the Sweet Tooth modern quilt-along with Bill Kerr and Weeks Ringle.. Sign-ups are open and the event starts on 2/14. This would be a fun project to enter as an exhibit in next year’s PVQA show.
There is an online lecture with Radha of Sewing Through Fog scheduled for the April 1 meeting. It will be streamed on the TV in the Senior center.
We will be making a $200 donation to the San Jose Textile Museum.
There were multiple donation quilts on display at the meeting. Gifting will be tomorrow morning.
A drawing was held for helping with the donation quilts. Both Gene and Darlene won prizes.
